Old Is Not A Four Letter Word

Image
I wish the world would stop making the word old a feared word. Personally I wear my oldness with pride, especially since some people don't get the opportunity to get old. With old comes experience, wisdom and the chance to learn more. One of the things we need to learn (or unlearn) is the internalizing the societal negativity toward the word old (particularly in the reference to women) and using it as a derogatory word. If someone calls me old I choose not to be offended.

Judge Not, Lest She Be Compared

Image
“She's Too Skinny!” “She's Too Fat!” "She shouldn't have cut her hair!” “She should cut her hair!” “She wears too much makeup!” “She needs to wear more makeup!” “She'd be pretty if it weren't for her nose/ears/lips/eyes!” “She hasn't aged well!” “She's clearly had work done!”  Can we please stop judging other women as a way to convince ourselves we're enough. Judging other women does not make us somehow a superior woman. In fact judging other women keeps us comparing ourselves to other women and increasingly leaves us at a deficit the more we do so. End the judgement, End the comparison!

Happily Married

Image
... One woman's honest experience, thoughts and observations. I have been with my husband for 8.5 years and married for a little over four years. I am truly happily married. My husband is the kindest person I have ever known. Many of my friends and family tell me I am spoiled by my husband because of the small things he does for me. I am openly appreciative of my man because I know not all men are like him. Now that I have gushed, I will get down to the nitty-gritty of finding the right man. In 2005 I started getting therapy for myself. The therapy had nothing to do with getting a man, but was about working on being a better me. Once I had a healthier mindset I was prepared to meet my husband (who I met in 2006). I've noticed many of my friends who are still looking; have a superficial list of prerequisites (ie: looks, money, status). I am not saying people should settle, but keep your heart open and not be closed based on your list. There are men in any woman's l...

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone, On this lovely crisp Autumn morning I'm in contemplation of all that I'm thankful for. I have been blessed with a wonderful Husband, adorable (bitchy) kitty, and a loving generous family!

My Good Friend Coffee

Image
It is a warm hug in the morning. It greets me in the morning with its aroma. It wakes me up and makes my brain alert. It is missed if I cannot find it. I am sure many of you can agree coffee has become a staple of the North American lifestyle. Can you imagine a whole week without coffee, the very thought makes me shudder. I like my coffee with 1 cream and 1/3 tsp of sugar. I love a fabulous mochaccino loaded with real whipped cream from Java Moose . Coffee is so essential it has achieved verb status in our society, you will frequently hear "Let's do coffee." in everyday life. Coffee is more than a beverage it is an activity; it even brings old friends together. What is your relationship with coffee or are you a tea lover, maybe you swing both ways? Where do you get your java fix? Psst ... I have been having a long-standing love affair with my Keurig

Integrity = Keeping One's Word

Image
"What we say is our word, our word whether kept or not is a representative of their integrity, so we must keep our word and prove that we have integrity!"... Angela P One of my biggest pet peeves is when people waste their breath by saying they are going to do something and doing the other or not doing anything at all. When someone fails to keep their word it can lead to others not trusting them. I try my best to do everything I say I am going to do, that is why I say "no" when I know I can't do something. In today's society there are so many people that have no problem running their mouth with absolutely no sincerity. Have you ever heard someone say,"Let's do lunch!" or,"We must go for drinks sometime!" (whilst donning an artificial smile) when they have no intent on either? People need to think, "Am I going to do what I say I am going to do?"! Some people will use the feeble excuse,"... but I intended on doin...

Go On, Cheer You Up!

Image
We all encounter bad times in our lives and never know how to make it through those times. Recently while chatting with a friend I came to the conclusion of how we all can help ourselves through rough times. Anyone who has gone through a rough times knows we can tend to obsess about our tribulations and that doing so never helps especially when the tribulation is not one that we created. When problems are not likely to go away in the near future obsessing is not productive. We must treat ourselves like someone who deserves to be happy by ending the obsession. It is not necessary that we do lavish things to make us feel better since the simplest things can pick up one's mood (ie: going for a walk, renting a movie, buying a new book, dancing around the house, etc ..). The main point I am trying to make is we act towards ourselves the way we would with a friend that was encountering the same problem and needs cheering up! Why is it we will try to cheer others up but not ourselve...

Words For The Modern Woman

Image
Aspire to be Barbie ... the bitch has everything. If the shoe fits ... buy them in every color. Take life with a pinch of salt ... a wedge of lime, and a shot of tequila. In need of a support group ... cocktail hour with the girls! When life gets you down ... just put on your big girl panties and deal with it. Let your greatest fear be that there is no PMS .... and this is just your personality. I know I'm in my own little world ... but it's ok. They know me here. Lead me not into temptation ... I can find it myself. Don't get your knickers in a knot ... it solves nothing and makes you walk funny. When life gives you lemons ... turn them into lemonade then mix it with vodka. Remember wherever there is a good looking, sweet, single or married man ... there is some woman tired of his bullshit. Keep your chin up ... only the first 40 years of parenthood are the hardest.. If it has tires or testicles ...

Boycott The Media

Boycott Media sensationalists who prey on the addictions and unfortunate events in celebrities lives to up their ratings for money! Tea, Good For The Soul

Image
When I cannot get to the Feel Good Store I will choose from the many flavors at the local grocery store. I like my tea straight without milk unless it's  Stash's Vanilla Nut Creme Tea . Tea has so many benefits it detoxifies (green/white tea), tranquilizes (chamomile/lavender) and is a great form of  aromatherapy  (vanilla/cinnamon). Some teas are even gentle enough for children to consume! I especially love relaxing in the tub with a nice cup of tea by my side. What are your favorite teas? How has tea made your life better?

Guilty Pleasures, Good For The Soul

I sing in the shower out loud. My voice is not that great though the shower head does not care if I sing off key, it will not mock me if I stumble over a line or three. In the shower I am free to sing as mediocre as I please. I will dance when I am alone since the chair and tables will not  judge or say "Who does she think she is?". When I dance alone I can truly express my soul through dance. "Feel the rhythm and give it an attitude!" Angela P (me) I love cheesy TV shows, chick flicks, I find them good for the soul. They may have unrealistic endings, but they help when you think the world is going to hell in the proverbial hand basket. Social Media (it is more of a guilty addiction) We all have our guilty pleasures, they make us unique and make life worth living! What are your guilty pleasures? *revision of an old post

Severely Neglected Blog

My poor blog sits here day in and day out waiting for me to post. I don't mean to neglect my blog but I really have nothing that I feel is important enough to post here. My life is pretty calm and most of my opinions on issues I share on social media sites. As I've matured I find life blogging can have ramifications and is not always appropriate depending on the content.

A Moment Of Silence For The Victims Of 9/11

Image
Ten years ago on September, 11th, 2001 I remember one of my coworkers came in for her 1pm shift at La Marquise (a spa I was an Aesthetician at) and told me two planes hit the twin towers and the twin towers were gone. Initially I thought she in some warped way was pulling my leg. Upon the realization that she was indeed telling the truth I became numb. I thought what happened in Oklahoma was bad enough but to realize such a huge atrocity had taken place was a major shock. Until that point nothing to this degree had taken place in our continent. I was all a rather big eye opener to how truly messed up our world is and it is only becoming worse day by day.
